DEC Announces Acquistion of Two Columbia County Parcels Totaling 1,114 Acres

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced the state’s acquisition of two properties in Columbia County totaling 1,114 acres. DEC completed the purchase of 590 acres along the Hudson River in the town of Stockport, and 524 acres in the town of New Lebanon, doubling the size of the Hand Hollow State Forest, for a total of $6.7 million.

Governor Announces $3.6 Million for Airport Modernization Projects

Investment includes $510,000 to construct a new airport fueling facility at the Columbia County Airport. The funding is part of a $23.6 million investment in 31 airports statewide. These projects are funded through the Governor’s State Aviation Capital Grant Program initiative and complement the Governor’s Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition, which provided $200 million to modernize airports across Upstate.

Columbia County Sees Increased Sales Tax Revenue

Sales Tax Growth Strengthens for a Third Year: 2018 Collections Up 5.3 Percent

According to a report from the NYS Comptroller’s office, Columbia County sales tax revenue increased 8.44% from 2017 to 2018, which was the largest increase of any county in the Capital Region. The County collected over $43 million in sales tax in 2018.

Columbia County to consider renewing contract with the CEDC

Columbia County officials are considering renewing its $460,000 contract with the Columbia Economic Development Corp. for 2019. Corporation President and CEO F. Michael Tucker asked the county to approve the 2019 contract with CEDC, which makes economic development investments in the county, at the county’s Economic Development Committee meeting Monday.
