In Columbia County, owning a home more affordable than renting

Homeowners in Columbia County save between $200 and $600 a month compared to renters, according to a recent study by the Business Journals using data from Zillow. The study compared median rent prices with monthly mortgage payments for zip-codes across the country using median home values and prevailing interest rates.

Twin Counties among top AirBnB destinations

Airbnb reports that Columbia and Greene Counties are thriving ecosystems for Airbnb hosts. During the past year, Green County hosts generated more revenue than any county in the Capital region with $7.2 million from 48,100 guests and Columbia County was third in the region with $5.7 million from 33,200 guests. 

Historically low unemployment continues for Columbia County

For the sixth consecutive month, Columbia County posted the lowest unemployment rate of any county in the state according to the NYS Department of Labor’s preliminary November 2018 Area Unemployment Rates Press Release. The County’s November unemployment rate of 2.6% is its lowest on record since December, 1999, and down from a 3.5% rate in November, 2017.

State Economy Adds 5,200 Jobs, Reaches New Private Sector Employment High

New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.9% in November 2018, reaching its lowest level on record (current records date back to 1976), according to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor. In addition, the number of unemployed New Yorkers fell in November, from 387,500 to 379,400, its lowest level since August 1988.

C-GCC Begins Construction

Columbia-Greene Community College is on schedule for the construction of a new $3.5 million technical education building to be up and running by fall 2019.
